Edmund currently heads the Sustainability Department at the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine with over 16 years’ experience within the mining industry. He began his career as Communications Officer from 2007, rising through the ranks to become Community and Social Development Officer, Snr Community Relations Officer, Stakeholder and Land Management Superintendent, while serving as Acting Senior Manager – Sustainability from May to August 2019.
Edmund possesses strong knowledge of global social compliance policies and standards, including ICMM, IFC, WGC, GHEITI, ESG, and VPSHR. He demonstrates an extensive knowledge and grasp of the local socio-political landscape, including stakeholders at all levels, the local traditions, and culture.
Edmund has been instrumental in the Mine’s achievement of several social management function initiatives, key among them include the Dokyiwaa resettlement project, establishment of KNUST Obuasi Campus, the Mine’s 10-Year Socio-economic Development plan (SEDP) and the establishment of the Community Safety Program.
Edmund holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from University of Ghana, Legon, Master of Science in Development Management and a Master of Business Administration, both from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Organizational Development from the University of Professional Studies, Ghana. In addition, he has post graduate certificates in Management and Administration, and Project Management from GIMPA and the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), of the University of Ghana, respectively.
